Lilac and London plane tree – powdery mildew
Hello, I have a problem with a London plane tree and a lilac. It looks like powdery mildew, but I am sending you the pictures to ask you to recommend me a treatment. I did not treat the trees or put fertilizers. The disease appeared in the fall, I don’t know if it has to do with the clay soil that doesn’t drain so well in the cold season. However, I would like to apply something, so that the problem does not extend to other shrubs. Thanks!

Hello, the trees in the attached photos show the specific symptoms of powdery mildew. Thus, it is indicated to remove the severely affected leaves, in order to reduce the spread of the disease and apply a fungicide such as Amistar, 10 ml, by spraying on the leaves, in a dose of 10 ml / 10 l of water. Two treatments can be applied at intervals of 7-10 days. Also, the optimal temperature range for the application of fungicides is 12-20Â ° c. More details about the correct application of treatments can be found in the article on our blog: Phytosanitary treatments - environmental and labor protection. In the future, in order to prevent the development of diseases and damage to trees, it is indicated to apply treatments with specific fungicides, starting with the appearance of the first symptoms. The following year, starting in spring, it is recommended to administer a granular fertilizer such as AMN Natural Activ-Bio, 1.5 kg. Also, in order to improve the soil structure and the absorption processes at the root level, it is recommended to apply by watering a product such as Organic Soil Activator, 350 ml ), periodically, throughout the growing season.

AdAdriana2 April 2022Hello, I want to order some products from you and on this occasion, I want to ask you if the thuja bushes in the picture have a problem or not. The problem occurred in the fall when the needles on the inside became reddish. In the meantime, I treated them with epsomite salt and the damaged needles fell off. Should I do something else for them? Also, I know that amistar is recommended to be applied at temperatures above 12 °C, but my question is why I have to wait until spring and the powdery mildew to spread? Isn’t it better to apply the treatment to them now and repeat it in spring? Thanks.

Hello, in general, at conifers, the browning of the foliage from the inside of the trunk to the outside is determined by several natural factors: firstly, the light that fails to penetrate inside the crown, and secondly, the natural defoliation of the plants, with their growth and development. At the same time, the drying of the branches on certain portions can be determined by the excessive humidity, persistence at the level of the root system, the compact soil, poor drainage, etc. Thus, if you want, you can remove the affected parts, because they will not recover, and at the same time, it is recommended to loosen the soil at their base and maintain a portion of land without vegetation. Starting in the spring, in order to support the regeneration and the normal start in the vegetation, you can administer the amn natural bio activ fertilizer, recommended also for deciduous trees. Subsequently, throughout the growing season, it is advisable to administer a special foliar fertilizer for conifers: fluid Fir Fluid, 350 ml ), to stimulate the healthy growth of thuja. Regarding the treatment with the fungicide amistar on deciduous trees, you can apply it even during this period, as long as the environmental conditions allow it. At the same time, it is very important to remove fallen leaves from the base of the trees, in order to minimize the risk of the appearance of disease in the following year.
