Dracaena, information about pruning
Hello,
I have the plant in the picture that has reached the ceiling and I think I should cut it somehow.
I have read about this process but only found information about cutting small plants.
I’m interested in cutting off the tall branch at the base and planting it so it can continue to grow.
On the remaining stem, the thick one, I am interested that a new branch grows. As you can see in the pictures there is a shoot that has already grown, but it has developed very slowly, probably because of the existence of the tall branch. This shoot, in the way it can be seen in the images, has grown over a period of 5 years.
What is the procedure to follow?Attachments:

Hello. The appearance of new shoots depends on the presence of dormant shoot buds under the area where the plant is to be trimmed. From the information and photos you have inserted, it is possible to cut the tall shoot at the base, so as not to create a very large wound on the plant. After pruning, in order to help the plant develop harmoniously, you can consider using a fertilizer such as Wuxal Green Plants and Palm Fertilizer Palmendünger, 1 litre, when watering, according to the information on the product label. As for the cut shoot, you can use it for the propagation of the plant. After removing the leaves (only 1-2 leaves may be left from the apical part), it can be cut into several fragments and these should be placed in a substrate specially designed for plant propagation (Universal Substrate Promo Garden, 20 litres). More information can be found in our article in the Armuro Community: Dracaena, plant care and growing guide.

Recommended articlesCoCosmin8 January 2024How could I plant the top shoot as it is?
It has grown to this height in a 10 year period and I don’t want to chop it up.I have circled the shoot I am referring to in the attached picture.

It can, but the chances of success are lower because the plant’s energy will be towards the upper part (stem and leaves) instead of root formation, even if some of the leaves are removed.
