Apple tree, swellings on the branches
Hello,
I’m asking for help in identifying the problem I’m having with a 4 year old apple tree that has been treated by an amateur.
Basically there are swellings on the branches, like warts, hard to the touch.
The apple tree has been repeatedly attacked by the apple aphid and in some areas, by fungi. The treatments were immediate, but the problems seem to never end.
Thank you!Attachments:

Hello. These symptoms may be caused by a number of factors: bacterial canker, possibly a previous attack by the woolly apple aphid (Eriosoma lanigerum), as a result of which the tissues hypertrophy and tumors appear, or they could be adventitious root primordia.
As it is not possible to make an exact identification based on photographs alone and the nature of the swellings cannot be determined, to be on the safe side, you may consider either removing the branches in question or cleaning those portions (by scraping until the tissue is healthy). Afterwards, the resulting wounds should be treated with a copper-based solution such as Bouillie Bordelaise WDG, 50 g. One sachet of Bordeaux mixture (50 g) is dissolved in a small amount of water (0.5 litres) to form a paste. Copper has a bactericidal, fungicidal effect and helps wounds to heal quickly. Apply the solution with a brush. After disinfecting thoroughly with the blue liquid and allowing it to dry, it is recommended to use a healing agent: Tree plaster, 300 g or Bio Plantella Arbosan, 350 g.
Subsequently, after leaf fall, it is recommended to carry out treatments during dormancy with copper-containing fungicides: Champ 77 WG, 20 g, Coppermax, 30 g or Bouillie Bordelaise WDG, 50 g and horticultural oil: Mospilan Oil 20 SG 10, 3 g + 50 ml, Ovipron Top, 100 ml or Estiuoil, 500 ml. More information about treatments during dormancy can be found in our article: Winter treatments with oils and copper-based products.
From spring onwards, once the plants start growing, preventive treatments are recommended, depending on the phenotype.
During this period, in order to increase the resistance of the apple to frost and other harsh conditions typical to the cold season, you can apply a granular fertilizer such as: Fertilizer 0-0-40 Azet HerbstKali, 2 kg, according to the label recommendations.-

GTGabriel Tuvichi23 September 2023I scraped the lumps, the top had a softer consistency (tree bark) and had inserts resembling blood vessels, purple in color. I will follow the recommended treatment, for which I thank you. I hope this information will be useful to others.
