Anthurium leaves yellowing
Hello! I have this plant from august 2019. This month, march 2021, has exactly one year since it is bloomed: it has 4, 5 or 6 flowers a year. However, the now shoot does not seem to grow (or grow quite slowly) and the leaves turn yellow. The pot is made of plastic, it has drainage holes, it is watered twice a week, sometimes only once (depending on how dry the soil is), the soil mix is for balcony flowers, but when i moved it from the original pot i moved it with all the soil. It’s placed near this window from august 2019, here has direct sun only in the morning. It still has flower buds, bigger and smaller ones, but i would like to know what’s happening with its leaves which turn yellow. Thank you very much!

Hello, usually, leaves yellowing/drying is a result of abiotic stress caused by excessive soil humidity, low atmospheric humidity, direct sunlight, temperature fluctuations, etc. It is recommended to cut down the affected parts (because they will not recover), and in order to improve its regeneration and healthy growth, you can regularly use a fertilizer such as: Interior Plants Organic Fertilizer, 350 ml. Also, it is advisable to place it in a place where the sunlight is not direct and the atmospheric humidity is slighty higher, by spraying with tap water. In addition, for proper growth and development, it is advisable to comply with the environmental and care requirements, specified in the following article: Anthurium, plant care and growing guide.

Thank you for the answer! I would like to ask you if you think the window open for 15-20 minutes can affect it? I will change its placement, i will put it in the opposite corner, where the light is indirect. Unfortunately, the humidity here is quite high. We use dehumidifiers in every room (we have problems with moisture) and we have added some plants that, according to articles on the internet, absorb moisture (peace lily, tillandsia). What i didn’t specify is that it sits above the radiator and the heat comes directly on it. In conclusion, i would like to know if this fertilizer can be used for all types of flowers: in addition to the anthurium and those mentioned above, i also have a dracaena, a cactus, two aloes, and another flower received on march 8. I know there’s a lot of information in both comments, but i take advantage of the fact that i have discovered you and can finally receive the right advice.

The specified fertilizer is recommended for indoor plants (decorative with leaves or flowers), but in case of succulent plants (aloe, cactus) it is recommended to apply a special fertilizer for their nutritional requirements, such as bonsai & cactus fertilizer kakteendunger, 250 ml. In addition, the air currents resulting from the opening of the window, as well as the fact that it is placed under the radiator (a source of hot air) are not beneficial. Please keep us informed of its evolution, following the change of location and fertilizing.
