The black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia) is a species of tree in the Fabaceae family, native to North America. It was introduced to Europe in 1601 by the French royal gardeners Jean Robin and Vespasien Robin, from whom the genus derives its name. It is a second-growth tree that can grow to a height of 25-30 m and has a longevity of about 100 years. The bark of the trunk has numerous cracks, the crown is irregularly shaped and the young branches have thorns.
