Anagallis arvensis (Scarlet pimpernel) is an annual seminiferous weed, with a thin, taproot, which prefers neutral, permeable soils.

Scarlet pimpernel is a herbaceous plant, that grows spontaneously or it is cultivated, in the form of a shrub, in sunny places, with blue or red flowers.

Description:

The stem is lying on the ground, very rarely straight, slightly branched, with four edges, bare, with a height of up to 15 cm.

The cotyledons are pointed, short petiolate, with a straight edge and brown spots on the underside, lying on the ground.

The true leaves are round-oval to wide-ovoid, dark green, glossy, with dark colored spots on the underside, with a straight edge, almost lying on the ground, placed in a cross or in the form of a crown, in groups of three.

The flower is cinnabar red, sometimes blue, in the axillary position, with a long peduncle, in the shape of a star, with finely laced, glandular, ciliated sepals.

The flowering period is from the beginning of spring and until autumn, the plant producing between 100-300 seeds.

It is recommended to use approved herbicides to control it, depending on the targeted crop.
