Broad bean

The broad bean is part of the Vicieae tribe, genus Vicia. The cultivated species is Vicia faba and it is divided into two subspecies, paucijunga and eu-faba. Ssp. eu-faba is divided, according to its morphological characteristics, mainly according to the size and shape of the beans, into 3 varieties: minor (mass of 1000 grains: 400-650 g), aequina (mass of 1000 grains: 650-800 g) and major (mass of 1000 grains: 800-1200 g) . The seeds of this plant are used in various forms in human nutrition, but also in animal feed in certain proportions, in combination with other types of fodder. The whole plant can also be used as green manure or as silage fodder.
