Aniseed

Aniseed (Pimpinella anisum) is an annual herbaceous plant belonging to the Umbelliferae family. The plants form an erect stem, branching towards the top, which can reach up to 60 cm high, with ovate basal leaves and upper penate-sectored, linear-lanceolate leaves. The flowers are white and form compound diachene-like fruits with small, grey-green seeds. Anise is cultivated for its volatile oil-rich fruits and seeds, used in the food and cosmetics industry, as well as for treating respiratory ailments. The leaves can be used in gastronomy.
