Why is my cactus yellowing and growing crooked
I have had this cactus for approx. 2 years. He is preparing to make some beautiful flowers, and today when i looked more closely, i noticed its base is a little yellowed and somehow dehydrated. From 8 am to 1 am he sits in the direct sun. I water it once a week with a small amount of water to moisten the soil a little. I don’t use tap water and i spray it quite rarely. I never changed the soil and i didn’t use any fertilizer. I don’t know how to make it grow straight. Should i worry? Thanks!

Hello, please tell us if the base / the yellowed portion has a rot / is soft to the touch and also if the pot has water drain holes.

Hello, apart from what looks yellow, i don’t notice any rot. The pot has drain holes. The small roots that come out through the holes have a small white fluff on them (i don’t know if this information is useful to you) i hope it will help.

Since the roots are already coming out through the holes and the pot has become too small, it is better to repot it, using a new, fresh Cacti & Succulent Plants Substrate, 5 litres : Cacti & Succulent Plants Substrate, 5 litres for cacti and succulents, 5 liters. When repotting, it is recommended to check the condition of the roots. If they are healthy and do not have rotten portions, then most likely the yellowed part is a sunburn (especially since you mentioned that is the part mainly exposed to the sun). For more information about repotting, please see the following article: Indoor plants - Repotting. Usually, the elongation phenomenon occurs when the plants do not benefit from enough light (and grow to the light source). However, it is also possible that the pot is too small to ensure enough stability. Thus, in addition to the support you have, after repotting, periodically (monthly), rotate the pot so that it receives light evenly. Also, during the vegetation period, it is recommended to regularly apply a special fertilizer for cacti and succulents, such as: bonsai & cactus fertilizer kakteendunger, 250 ml. For more information about care, please see the following article: Cactus, plant care and growing guide.

Hello, i haven’t done anything with the plant and it still looks the same. Unfortunately, now i can’t repot it because it has a lot of flowers. Could i do something until the flowering period ends? Is there any treatment i can apply if it has a sunburn? I tried not to water it even once a week, maybe it still has rotten roots and i water once every 2 weeks. Could you also recommend me some gravel that i can put at the base of the pot, possibly also a pot? Thanks!

It is recommended to follow the advice above, as soon as possible. Regarding the pot and the gravel, we can’t help you with a recommendation, but you can find these products at DIY stores.
