A week and a half ago, the leaves of the geraniums started to be perforated by caterpillars, for which i applied one treatment with karate zeon yesterday. I noticed the same caterpillars on fuchsia next to the geraniums. Inside they seem to have eggs. What do they come from? Are they related to the caterpillars? Thank you in advance!
These are nests made of clay and sand, in amphorae shape, built by mason wasps or potter wasps (Eumenes sp. ). It lays the egg in the nest and also brings supplies (the green caterpillars that you noticed on the geraniums) for the moment when the larva will come out and close the nest. They are helpful in fighting caterpillars.
