Red Habanero Pepper – mold on potting soil

Hello, I planted Red habanero about 2 months ago, now they are starting to grow, they have about seven leaves and I started to have mold on the surface of the potting mix. I have never had this happen before and I have been growing all these plants.. Does the mold affect the plant in any way? What to expect and how to stop it from occurring? Thank you!

Hello. The development of mold is most often favored by excessive, persistent moisture in the potting soil. Our shop does not have a specific product to control mold in the pot. Still, to avoid its development it is recommended to water moderately, using optimal amounts of water, only when the surface layer of the potting soil is slightly dry. Given the existence of mold on the surface, you may consider replacing the first few centimeters of the potting soil with a new one: Universal Substrate Promo Garden, 20 litres. In addition, to support the growth and development of the plants, it is recommended to use a fertilizer specially formulated for the nutritional requirements of potted vegetables, such as Organic Liquid Fertilizer for Pot Vegetables, 350 ml, applied by watering according to the recommendations on the label.

Thank you, but this mold doesn’t affect the plant, does it? The point is that I water it about every 3-4 days with about a cup of water. The top layer is dry, and then I water it… But still it gets this mold.

In general, the development of mold does not affect the plant, but its appearance is caused by inadequate watering, insufficient light, lack of ventilation, etc. In this case, it is recommended to place the plant in a brighter place and follow the advice given above.
In the case of seedlings, you can use the potting mix recommended in the previous post (Universal Substrate Promo Garden, 20 litres).
