Potted mint with moldy soil
I have a potted mint whose substrate I changed recently (the new substrate is coconut fiber from Ikea, maybe not the most suitable) because I couldn’t get rid of fleas otherwise. Although it did well for a few weeks, now it’s showing signs of being sick again. It has white soil at the base as if it were moldy. Some white insects have also appeared and the new leaves remain very small. I mention that I water it about twice a week and 4 days ago I added two sticks of fertilizer from Floralself for herbs and spices. What am I doing wrong and how can I save it?

Hello. In this case, it is recommended to remove what is affected and then carry out several treatments with a fungicide such as Dynamic, 100 g, applied by watering. For monitoring and controlling insects (flies, aphids), it is recommended to use an adhesive Interior Insect Adhesive Trap Gelbsticker, set of 10. Insect pests are attracted by the color of the trap and stick to the special adhesive. For more information about care requirements, you can consult our article (Peppermint - planting, growing and harvesting).

Thank you very much for your answer! Could you also tell me what could be the possible causes, to prevent these problems in the future?

The main factor is excessive humidity, persistent in the soil. Thus, it is recommended to water moderately, allowing the substrate to dry slightly between waterings, to respect the environment and care requirements (detailed in the article), and to follow the evolution of the plant for a while.
