Pepper viruses – what can I apply?
Every year my pepper plants start growing well (either commercial seedling or ones I grew myself) but when they get about 8-10 inches tall begin to look just like your picture for the cucumber mosaic virus. Would aphids or some other insect pest cause the same problem? I ask because leaves on my viburnum carlessi are very similar when aphids attack the new leaves in the spring. I sprayed a couple of times with NEEM and then Sevin about two weeks ago and some of the plants are now growing new healthy leaves. I was not rigorous recording just when I sprayed but would like to know what to do for next year. I know this is after the season but to prepare for next spring, I have attached some pictures of my pepper plants. As of late summer 2020, the plants were even worse except they got a bit bigger. The peppers themselves are covered with brown skin and warped. See them in this third picture.

Hello, the peppers plants in the attached image appear to be affected by a virus infection. In order to determine this precisely, it is important to consider performing a laboratory test. This can be done at an Institute for Plant Protection in your area. Unfortunately, there is no treatment for virosis. As preventive measures, it is recommended to eliminate the affected plants from the crop, perform preventive insecticide treatments against pests (aphids) that transmit the disease, and control weeds in and around the crop.
NiNicholas19 April 2022That was my conclusion also. Many of my other vegetables and some flowers like gladiolus and a couple of dahlias had exactly the same condition. That means my whole garden has virus cells. How long do they live and will letting the garden idle for a season be effective?
In the case of viruses, isn’t specified a time for the establishment of other cultures. It is indicated to eliminate the affected plants, and at the establishment of another culture, use certified, healthy seed and make treatments with specific insecticides, in order to control the pests that transmit this disease.
