      Is it worth replacing the atomizer with a thermal fogger?

      Hello,
      Do you think that thermal foggers are effective for treatments with fungicides in a small orchard? I have a gas powered backpack sprayer and an electric backpack sprayer, but a thermal fogger seems much more efficient and easier to use.

      Hello. Generally, not all plant protection product formulations can be applied by thermal fogging (“warm mist”), as this equipment is primarily suitable for the application of insecticides in the form of EC (emulsifiable concentrate) or EW (emulsion in water dispersion) in combination with water. Additionally, the warm mist will rise and in the case of certain treatments the particles must reach the surfaces. The advantage of thermal fogging is that this process creates very fine particles, which easily penetrate even through dense vegetation. However, the particles do not remain very effectively on surfaces (leaves) and thus do not have a residual effect, due to their small size.
      Thus, thermal fogging can be a very good solution in some cases, but not in others – depending on the treatments needed, the characteristics of the vegetation, the surfaces being treated, and the type of required equipment.
