Hydrangea, can I remove the wilted flowers?

      Hello.
I own some hydrangea bushes (bought a year ago and planted in the yard) and I am appealing to your kindness for some information. Some of the flowers have decayed. I would like to know if they can be clipped, the flowers I mean, or if I should leave them until they wilt. Or is it a disease? In the latter case what to treat them with?
Thank you for your kindness and time.

Hello. Deteriorated flowers can be removed by cutting, with well sharpened and previously disinfected tools (e.g. Floristic Pruner). In addition, it is recommended to remove the decorative bark layer (i.e. the foil, if applicable) at the base of the hydrangea plants, as the materials placed at the base of the plants keep the humidity high and constant at the soil level, thus creating a favorable environment for the installation and propagation of plant pathogens. In the future, it is advisable to keep a permanently aerated area around the hydrangeas. As the activity and spread of plant pathogens is stimulated by the high and constant soil moisture, watering is recommended to be carried out exclusively at ground level, depending on the recorded temperatures and rainfall, only when the soil is dry on the surface. More information on the care of this plant species can be found in our article: Hortensia, planting guide and care work.
Providing the necessary nutrients is also essential for a healthy growth and development. You may consider using fertilizers such as AMN BonaVita, 500 ml (a natural fertilizer that contributes to the improvement of soil quality, supports root development and increases the plant’s resistance to stress factors – applied by watering) and Hydrangea Blue Fertilizer Wuxal Hortensiendünger, 1 litre (a fertilizer specially formulated for the nutritional requirements of this plant species – applied by foliar spraying).
