      Holes in my lawn

      Hello,

      I noticed some holes with a diameter of about 1 cm in the lawn. The surrounding grass is also destroyed.

      Can you tell me what pests can do this and give me some solutions to control them?

      Hello, from your description it is possible to face the pest Tipula paludosa. In this case, the larvae are the ones that cause the damage. However, due to the fact that these larvae are in the soil, controlling them is more difficult, especially since, in the case of a lawn, you cannot dig the soil to bring them to the surface and expose them to the weather. If it is a small area, small areas of grass can be covered with black polyethylene overnight after it has rained or the grass has been watered. Thus, they are forced to come to the surface and can be manually removed the next day. To take effect, this operation must be repeated every few weeks.
