Hello. To help you with recommendations and advice please attach more clear photos of the leaves with the black deposits. Also, please specify how long you have had the plant, if the planter has drainage holes, if the substrate dries out before watering, how is the area where the plant is located (shaded, partially shaded or sunny), if the substrate is covered with mulch, gravel or fabric and if you have carried out treatments or fertilized it. Also, please let us know if the plant has new growth at the base.
AlAlex4 April 2024Hi,
I’ve reattached some pictures, but unfortunately I don’t have pictures of all the affected leaves because in the meantime I tried to clean it.
– I’ve had the plant for about 2 years, but I don’t know exactly when it was planted because it came with the house, as for the planter, as far as I know it has drainage holes at the base.
For the rest, I’ll try to answer below:
– the area is shaded until about 13-14 and then it’s in direct light
– the substrate is covered with gravel
– I think it starts to dry out (I am not 100% sure, but the problem appeared over a year ago and I don’t usually water it in winter, in spring/autumn twice a week and in summer every 1-2 days)
– yes, there are quite a lot of growths all over the plant
– yes, from spring to autumn I spray it alternately with nordalge amn, foliar terrasorb + bordeaux mixture recentlyThanks

AlAlex5 April 2024I forgot to mention that I have 2 plants like this, in different planters and both have the same problem (the conditions and the location are identical).
Most probably, the drying of the leaves could have been caused by one or more factors, such as: constant and high humidity in the substrate, possibly restricted space for root development, low light intensity, etc. In this case, it is recommended to remove all dry parts and shorten the shoots in order to stimulate new growth. It is also advisable to remove the gravel layer and to gently loosen the substrate around the specimen. The materials placed at the base of the plants keep the humidity high and constant at the soil level, thus creating a favorable environment for the development and propagation of plant pathogens. In the future, it is advisable to keep a permanently loosened portion of soil around the specimen and to continue to fertilize regularly with AMN Nordalge, 500 ml. More tips and information on growing and caring for this species can be found in our article in the Armuro Community: Hebe, planting guide and care work .
