Bonsai – treatments against mealybugs
Hello,
Can you help me, please, with advice on how I can treat the bonsai that is in the condition shown in the picture?
Its leaves are falling off and it has that white web in places.
Thank you very much!Attachments:

Hello. In order to be able to help you with relevant advice, please give us some additional details: How long have you owned the plant? When did the first symptoms of depreciation appear? Have you noticed any pests (check carefully for white formations – do they release a red substance when crushed or not)? Have you applied fertilizers or phytosanitary treatments? How often and how much water do you water? Have you recently changed the location of the plant? Is the bonsai located near a heat source (working heater)? In addition, please attach several focalized photos focusing on the affected portions of the plant and the stem base and substrate.

Since the beginning of the year, I have had it. It has also flowered and seemed to be in a favorable environment. It has a white, slightly liquid webbing that is hard to remove. The formations on the leaves don’t seem to give off a red substance either. We haven’t changed its location. It is on a ledge and at the bottom, there is a working heater but it is not permanently open. We water it as needed, every 2-3 days as long as the soil is moist. In September we put Agro fertilizer in the amounts indicated about 2 times.
Thank you!- This reply was modified 1 year, 4 months ago by Armuro.

According to what has been mentioned, bonsai decline can be related to a combination of biotic and abiotic factors, such as inadequate watering, inadequate fertilization, excessive heat at certain times (when the heater is working), respectively mealybugs attack (Mealybugs in ornamental plants - pest management). In this case, are recommended specific treatments against mealybugs, with insecticides such as Movento 100 SC, 7.5 ml, and Mospilan 20 SG, 3 g, alternatively. More precisely, the first treatment is recommended to be carried out with Movento 100 SC, 7.5 ml, at a dose of 7.5 ml/10 L water, and after 7 days the treatment can be applied with Mospilan 20 SG, 3 g, at a dose of 3 g/10 L water. To increase the effectiveness of the insecticides, it is indicated to add an adjuvant such as Break Thru S 240, 2 ml, 2 ml/10 L, to the spray solution. Spray the solutions as finely as possible, so as to achieve a more even distribution on the plant, both on the leaves and on the stem and branches (after they die, these pests may remain on the stem and leaves).
It is known that bonsai trees are very sensitive to environmental and care conditions (change of location or environmental conditions (temperature), watering, fertilizing, pruning, repotting, and other operations). It is recommended to resume the administration of specific fertilizers from the following spring (e.g. Kakteendunger Bonsai & Cacti Fertilizer, 250 ml).
Given the current condition of the bonsai in the pictures, it is not possible to say exactly how it will evolve in the following period. In the future, it is recommended to consult a specialist for advice from the first signs of damage. For more information on bonsai care, please see our article: Bonsai, plant care and growing guide.-

Hello. In order to help you with relevant advice, please detail your request and attach some photos of the plant in question.
HaHailey8 December 2022I have had the bonsai for 3 years. Since I got it I have kept it in the same place, on a small table next to the window so it has access to light but not directly on it, not too close to the heater and I water it twice a week. Up until two months ago it seemed to be doing well having lots of leaves and a few months a year some small white flowers. Two months ago the leaves started to fall off, no new ones are growing and there is this white webbing and little insects on the leaves.

Hello. The insects in the inserted photos seem to be aphids (Aphids - pest management). Against aphids, you can apply 1-2 treatments, at 7-10 days intervals, with the insecticide Deltasap 2.5 EC, 5 ml, in a dose of 5 ml/10 L water, applied by spraying. To increase the efficacy of the insecticides, it is recommended to add an adjuvant such as Break Thru S 240, 2 ml, in a dose of 2 ml/10 L solution. Spray the solution as finely as possible, so as to achieve a more even distribution on the plant, both on the upper and lower part of the leaves. It is important to prepare a volume of solution corresponding to a single treatment (respecting the mentioned dosage) because the mixture already prepared does not have a validity longer than 24 hours. In addition, from spring onwards during the growing season, for healthy and balanced growth, it is recommended to use a special fertilizer for the nutritional requirements of bonsai plants: Kakteendunger Bonsai & Cacti Fertilizer, 250 ml, administered according to the instructions on the product label. More information about the care of these species can be found in our article: Bonsai, plant care and growing guide.
