Apricot tree – gummosis on the trunk
Hello, I would need help to fight an apricot disease that is manifested by the existence of gummosis on the trunk and some of the branches. The apricot is positioned on the northeast and has little direct light being positioned between buildings. It was planted 5 years ago. Since the purchase from the nursery, he has not received any treatment. Thank you.

Hello, in the case of stone fruit trees, the presence of gummy secretions on the trunk/branches of the tree denotes physiological stress caused by various factors (pest or disease attacks, periods of drought/high temperatures/abundant rainfall, heavy, compact soil, excessive humidity, etc.). Thus, for the time being, as the tree will enter the dormant period after leaf fall, it is recommended to carry out specific treatments with copper fungicides and horticultural oil against diseases or pests that may overwinter on the bark. Thus, a first treatment with one of the fungicides can be carried out:
Bordeaux mixture (Bouillie Bordelaise WDG, 50 g), 50 g/10 L water;
Coppermax (Coppermax, 30 g), 30 g/15 L water;
Champ (Champ 77 WG, 20 g), 20 g/10 L water;
Funguran OH (Funguran OH 50 WP, 30 g), 15-20 g/ 10 L water;
Alcupral (Alcupral 50 PU, 500 g), 30-50 g/10 L water.
Afterwards, 10-14 days after the application of the copper treatment, the horticultural oil treatment will be carried out with one of the following products:
Mospilan Oil (Mospilan Oil 20 SG 10, 3 g + 50 ml);
Ovipron Top (Ovipron Top, 100 ml), 250 ml/10 L water.
In our article (Winter treatments with oils and copper-based products) you can find more information about the treatments recommended during the dormant period and the recommended products.
In spring, during the vegetative growth period, it is also recommended to use a granular, slow-release fertilizer (Organic Fertilizer for Fruit Trees, 2 kg).-
