Deutzia is a genus comprising about 60 species of flowering shrubs in the family Hydrangeaceae. They are native to Central and East Asia, Central America, and Europe. Most species (approx. 50) are found in China. The name of the genus comes from the name of the 18th-century Dutch botanist Johann van der Deutz. Because of its rich flowering, it is planted ornamentally in parks and gardens, as single specimens or in groups, sometimes even as hedges.
