American sweetgum – black ooze on bark
I cleaned with bordeaux mixture and applied a healing product on this significant lesion (approx 50cm) in the spring and now it shows some liquid discharge. Does it need to be cleaned again?

Hello, from the attached pictures, it is possible that the tree has a bacterial infection. For exact identification, it is advised to do a laboratory analysis at a Plant Protection Institute in your area. Further, you can consider cleaning the bark with a sharp and disinfected tool. Then, using a brush is indicated to apply a copper-based solution (Bouillie Bordelaise WDG, 50 g). One sachet of Bouillie Bordelaise WDG, 50 g (50 g) is dissolved in a small amount of water (0.5 liters) to form a paste. Copper has a bactericidal, and fungicidal effect and helps wounds heal quickly. After disinfecting thoroughly with the blue solution and allowing it to dry, a healing solution such as Tree plaster, 300 g can be applied to all existing wounds on the trunk and branches.
