Yellow foxtail – information and weed control

Setaria glauca (Yellow foxtail) is an annual heat-loving gramineous weed, with strong seed propagation.
It prefers nutrient-rich soils, loamy-sandy to sandy-loamy.

The straws are often branched at the base, colored in green-gray, with a height of 10-40 cm.

The true leaves are broad, lax, bluish-green, matte, with white streaks at the middle. The sheath is flattened, has a crown of hairs instead of a ligule, and the edge of the sheath is smooth.

    
Yellow foxtail flower is a short inflorescence, a pseudo-spike in the shape of a simple cylinder with small monofloral spikelets. The flowers are without awns, but with long hairs, arranged around the spikelet, exceeding its length 2-3 times.

The germination season is in early spring.

The flowering period is from July to September, and the plant produces between 400-800 seeds.
