Spurrey – information and weed control

Spergula arvensis (Spurrey) is an annual weed, with a short taproot, with creeping growth, branched, with a thick appearance. This weed is frequently found in cultivated land, gardens, roads.

The stem has several vertical or laid on the ground joints, up to 40 cm high or long.

The cotyledons are very thin, linear in the shape of needles, bent diagonally.

The true leaves are linear, sharp at the tip, bent at the top, the base is branched, with clinging hairs, arranged in bundles.

Spurrey flower is small, with long peduncles, with five white petals, and the calyx with separate sepals in umbelliferous inflorescences positioned at the top.

The germination season is in spring, and the germination depth is 0.5-3.0 cm.

The flowering period is summer-autumn, and the plant produces between 1000-10000 seeds.

It is recommended to use approved herbicides to control it, depending on the crop.
