Muskweed – information and weed control

Myagrum perfoliatum (Muskweed) is an annual plant, which can grow up to 1 meter high. Weed from the Cruciferae family, annual, which overwinters, widespread in the hot and dry areas. It prefers soils rich in nutrients and calcium, clayey to loamy-sandy. Myagrum perfoliatum is considered a harmful weed for deciduous crops such as chickpeas, rapeseed, lupine, beans, peas, and lentils.

The stem is simple or branched, with a height of 20–60 cm.

The cotyledons are wide, in the shape of a bludgeon or cordate, with an obvious petiole.

The true leaves are thin at the base, spatulate with a main white rib. The ones on the stem are sessile with a full or serrated edge. All leaves are blue-green, waxy.

   
Muskweed flower is small, light yellow, 2-4 mm in diameter, and very branched. The flowers are clustered.

The germination season is in spring. The germination depth is 0.5-1 cm.

The flowering period is summer.

It is recommended to use approved herbicides to control it, depending on the crop.
