Loose silky-bent – information and weed control

Apera spica-venti (Loose silky-bent) is a paniculate grass, usually perennial, rarely annual, with strong tillering and growth in the form of a bush.

Grows in light, cool soils. It is a good indicator of calcium deficiency.

The straws are vertical or geniculate, with a height of 30-120 cm. Autumn plants are more closely related than spring plants.

The cotyledons are fine, in the shape of a corkscrew.

The true leaves are flat, rough, twisted helically, without stipules. The ligules are deep and cut into a capillary shape.

Loose silky-bent flower is in the form of monofloral spikelets, clustered in large, sparse panicles, branched after flowering in loose panicles.

The germination season is usually in autumn, but also in spring. The weed germinates only in moist to wet soils. It needs light for germination, and the depth of germination is 1 cm.

The flowering period is June-July, and the plant produces between 1000-2000 seeds.

It is recommended to use approved herbicides to control it, depending on the crop.
