Large crabgrass – information and weed control

Digitaria sanguinalis (Large crabgrass) is an annual heat-loving gramineous weed, often red to purple in color.

It prefers sandy soils, fine-grained, calcium-free, but rich in nutrients.

At first, the straws are laid on the ground, then geniculate, slightly hairy at the nodes, with a height of 30-50 cm.

The true leaves have fine satiny foliar limbs and a very hairy sheath at the base. The leaves are hairy on the underside, and the ligules are approx. 2 mm long.

The flower is in the form of monofloral spikelets, clustered in pairs, peduncled, with different lengths, without awns, in scarce panicles, up to 10 cm long.

The germination season is at the beginning of summer.

The flowering period is from July to September.

It is recommended to use approved herbicides to control it, depending on the crop.
