How to get rid of Wild Boars
Wild boars (Sus scrofa) – are large mammals that are part of the Suidae family. They are native to Eurasia and North Africa but have spread to other continents.
Wild boars are omnivorous and have a varied diet. They usually consume roots, bulbs, tubers, leaves, seeds, fruits, insects, poultry eggs, frogs, etc. Due to their diet, they can be useful in agriculture, keeping certain populations of pests under control. However, when the food in their area is insufficient, wild boars can also venture into populated areas.
Wild boar can be harmful, causing damage to gardens, orchards, but also to agricultural crops (cornfields, potato crops, etc.). Also, these mammals can be aggressive, especially during the mating season (November-January) or in situations where they feel threatened. Although attacks on humans are rare, injuries can be serious. In addition, wild pigs can transmit a series of diseases and parasites, both to domestic animals and to humans.
Signs of infestation
Wild boars are nocturnal animals, so they can be difficult to detect. However, their presence can be detected due to damage to the garden, orchards, vineyards, or crops. They can also break/raise wire fences, creating openings through which other animals can escape.
Other signs of the presence of wild boar: gnawed roots, traces of friction on tree trunks or poles, ravaged portions of land, specific noises, the presence of muddy areas, excrement, and hoof marks.
Methods to keep wild boars at bay
The main method by which wild boars can be controlled is to create and maintain an unwelcoming environment.
As such, it is recommended to remove food sources that may attract wild boar, constantly remove garbage and seal garbage bins. At the same time, it is recommended to fence the area and to consolidate protection fences or replace them with metal, concrete or electric ones.
If the presence of this pest has been noticed, in order to drive them away, sound devices – animal cannons can be used.
Cannons for wild boars
It’s a type of equipment that emits loud (explosive) noises, used for the safe removal of wild boars from agricultural crops, farms, and other open spaces. Usually, the cannon is powered by a gas cylinder and operates on a piezoelectric motor, being independent of any energy source. Depending on the type of device, the range and frequency of detonations can be programmed or preset.

Cannons are devices that act by intimidating and driving off wild boars from a certain area. Because the sounds they produce are loud, they are intended for open spaces. They run on gas engines.
