Asparagus (Asparagus officinalis) is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Asparagaceae family, cultivated for young spears that are eaten as vegetables. The plant is tall, with leaves emerging from the stem, placed on the stems like feathers. The flowers are bell-shaped and appear individually or in pairs. They are white, green or yellow. After flowering, a round red fruit forms 1 to 6 black seeds. Asparagus can live for 20 years or more and can reach a height of between 100 and 150 cm.Â
