
Elderflower (Sambucus) is a genus of flowering plants in the Adoxaceae family. They are shrubs native to temperate and subtropical areas of the northern hemisphere. They reach heights of up to 10 m, forming thick, grey-green branches. The leaves are oppositely arranged on the branches, are pinnate, and consist of a variable number of leaflets with a serrate margin. Flowering occurs in late spring. Produces small, white flowers grouped in umbelliform, cymes. The fruits are berries, appear towards the end of summer, and have different colors depending on the species. It can be planted for ornamental purposes, as single plants or in groups, in gardens, or in the composition of massifs.
