Coriander (Coriandrum sativum) is an annual herb of the Umbelliferae family. It has a slender, thin, sparsely branched habit. The stem reaches heights of 40 – 100 cm, branching only at the top. The basal leaves are similar to parsley leaves, and those on the flower stalk are pinnate-sectate. The flowers are white-pink and the seeds are spherical.
Coriander is grown for its aromatic leaves and seeds, used as a spice. The seeds are used in flavoring food, drinks, preserves, but also cosmetics, and medicine. The leaves are used fresh or dried, for flavoring certain dishes.
