Mole crickets belong to the order Orthoptera, family Gryllotalpidae and is widespread in Europe, northern Africa, and western Asia.
Mole crickets have an omnivorous diet, feeding on plant substrate, but also on live prey (earthworms, various larvae, or insects). Damage is direct, by gnawing the root system of plants, or indirect, by removing seeds or young plants from the soil surface when digging galleries. Larvae cause the greatest damage. The attack occurs in glasshouses and can be recognized by small upwellings on the soil surface (especially after rain or irrigation).
