Bermuda grass – information and weed control

Cynodon dactylon (Bermuda grass) is a perennial gramineous weed, which, through the stolons it develops, forms a very dense carpet. It can grow in any type of soil, but it prefers dry and hot regions in subtropical areas.

The straws are thin, and those bearing flowers are up to 30 cm high. Those that lie on the ground develop adventitious roots and lateral shoots near the nodes.

The true leaves have glabrous, short foliar limbs, a slightly hairy sheath, and the ligule is replaced by a crown of hairs.

Bermuda grass flower is in the form of an inflorescence with small spikelets, and it can develop in numbers up to 7. The bracts are sterile, and the lower parts are purple in color.

The germination season is from spring to early summer, and the germination depth is up to 20 cm.
The flowering period is from summer to autumn.

It is recommended to use approved herbicides to control it, depending on the crop.
