Barnyard grass – information and weed control

Echinochloa crus-galli (Barnyard grass) is an annual heat-loving gramineous weed.
It predominates in moist, humic soils, rich in loamy-sandy nutrients.

The straws are vertical or geniculate with a height of 30-100 cm. The nodes have clusters of hairs.

Barnyard grass true leaves are dark green to greenish-gray, relatively wide. Only at the base of the limb, there are a few rows of hairs, without ligules.

The flower is in the form of monofloral spikelets, 2-3 mm long, densely inserted in alternating pseudo-spikes or face-to-face on the main axis.

The germination season is at the beginning of summer.

The flowering period is from July to October.

It is recommended to use approved herbicides to control it, depending on the crop.
