Annual meadow-grass – information and weed control

Poa annua (Annual meadow-grass) is an annual or annual-overwintering weed, which grows in the shape of a bush. It prefers moist, nitrogen-rich soils.

The straws develop in the form of a bush, branched, with almost equal heights, often developing roots at the nodes, with a height of 5-25 cm.

The true leaves are thin, light green, with a width of 2-5 mm, slightly smoky, the young leaves are folded (pleated), the ligule can reach a length of 2 mm, whitish in color, with the edge full, ending in a sharp tip.

Annual meadow-grass flower consists of many spikelets, elongated oval, developed in loose panicles, 8 cm long, with open husks, sterile bracts that are shorter than the spikelet.

The flowering period takes place almost all year round, and the plant produces between 500-1000 seeds.

It is recommended to use approved herbicides to control it, depending on the crop.
